About Hartsdale, NYHumidity

Hartsdale is a hamlet located in the town of Greenburgh, Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 5,293 at the 2010 census. It is a suburb of New York City. == History == Hartsdale, a CDP/hamlet/post-office in the town of Greenburgh, New York, lies on the Bronx River 20 miles (32 km) north of New York City. It is served by the Metro-North Harlem River commuter rail line into Grand Central Terminal. Hartsdale is the home of America's first canine pet cemetery (started by veterinarian Samuel Johnson in 1896), and the world's first Carvel Ice Cream store (1934), which closed in 2008.[1] === Pre-Colonial Period === Hartsdale's earliest settlers were the Wecquaesgeek (sometimes spelled Weckquaesgeek), a band of the Wappinger people, an Algonquian tribe that lived in southeastern New York from northern Westchester down through Manhattan. Weekquaeskeek is an Algonquian term believed to mean "place of the bark kettle"; a representation of this kettle appears in the Greenburgh town seal. === Colonial Era and American Revolution === After the earliest British settlers arrived, the area was developed under the manor system when Frederick Philipse, a Dutch merchant and British Loyalist, was granted the land by the British government. As lord of his Philipse Manor, he leased his land to tenant farmers who for a time lived alongside their Native American neighbors. There is evidence to show that Hartsdale played a significant role during the American Revolution, some of which still stands today.

About Garden City, NY

Things To Do in Hartsdale, NYGarden City is a village located on Long Island in Nassau County, New York. It is the anchor city of the Greater Garden City community. The population was 23,272 at the 2020 census. The Incorporated Village of Garden City is primarily located within the Town of Hempstead, with the exception being a small area at the northern tip of the village located within the Town of North Hempstead. == History == === 19th century === In 1869, Irish-born millionaire Alexander Turney Stewart bought a portion of the lightly populated Hempstead Plains. In a letter, Stewart described his intentions for Garden City: Having been informed that interested parties are circulating statements to the effect that my purpose in desiring to purchase the Hempstead Plains is to devote them to the erection of tenement houses, and public charities of a like character, etc. I consider it proper to state that my only object in seeking to acquire these lands is to devote them to the usual purposes for which such lands, so located, should be applied that is, open them by constructing extensive public roads, laying out the lands in parcels for sale to actual settlers, and erecting at various points attractive buildings and residences, so that a barren waste may speedily be covered by a population desirable in every respect as neighbour taxpayers and as citizens. In doing this I am prepared and would be willing to expend several millions of dollars. The central attraction of the new community was the Garden City Hotel. It was replaced by a new hotel in 1895, designed by the acclaimed firm of McKim, Mead & White. This hotel was destroyed by fire in 1899 and then rebuilt and expanded, before being replaced again in 1983.
