I had such a great time for the awards ceremony at the Omni Hotel located at 400 S 2nd St, Louisville, KY 40202.
Reception And Awards Ceremony at Omni Hotel Louisville
Irving Materials, Inc., held their annual awards ceremony in the elegant Omni Hotel. For this year the theme was “The Rodeo.”
Joan asked to email an idea for a poster so that the employees as they walked in could see there would be magic at the rodeo. The first idea I had sent was received well by both Joan and Starla (both working hard to make this event a success).
But they expressed some wariness regarding whether it would be too obscene for this group, “Amongst ourselves, we think it is hilarious. However, it might just push the line. Can you come up with another clever line that would be just as good, but not possibly make some people uncomfortable?”
They thought it might not get it approved. So I sent over a dozen more ideas for a poster. In the end, they were able to get approval for my original tag line.
Once at the Omni Louisville Hotel, I walked through the proscenium of balloons and noticed they had made the giant foamboard poster of me (graphic above) and easeled it beside the entrance.
Entertaining the groups of employees with magic at the reception, I could see this was a special company. Regardless of rank, everyone knew everyone. It felt more like a family than a company.
Later for the magic show on stage, I brought several participants on stage with me including finally, Kevin, the president of Irving Materials. We all on stage had as much fun as the people in the audience.
Everyone had a “bucking good time!” at the rodeo.
Here’s what Joan said after the show:
It was such a pleasure to meet you and have you perform your magic for us. It added so much to the Rodeo! It was a great night! I’ve just been reflecting on it today.
I took a tour of the hotel after the event and ran into a lot of people who loved your magic.
Thanks, so much, for being a part of it all!
I regret that I didn’t get to see more of your magic, as I was hindered by work. Perhaps I will get another opportunity…
It was also great to meet and talk to another IU grad, as well as an English major. Don’t get to do that too often. Makes me want to road trip to Bloomington. I really do love it there. 🙂 — Joan Thompson, Louisville, Kentucky
I had a blast! Thank you so much for having me.
