Zoom Calls

Zoom Calling

Zoom has grown to become one of the most common video conferencing software apps in 2020. It's used for corporate meetings and even hosting magical Zoom magician entertainment. Zoom allows you to connect with coworkers online when in-person meetings aren't possible, and it's also been a big hit at social events.

Make no mistake about it: Zoom is a must-have tool for small, medium, and large teams that want to stay in touch and keep their regular workflows running smoothly, as well as a personal favorite, particularly during holidays like Thanksgiving in the United States and Christmas around the world.

Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing service that allows you to remotely meet with others when holding live chats, and it also allows you to record those sessions to watch later. Zoom was reportedly used by more than half of Fortune 500 businesses in 2019, and it is expected to rise even more in 2020, with a 227 percent increase year over year.

When people talk about Zoom, they typically say things like Zoom Calling and Zoom Meeting and Zoom Space. A Zoom Meeting is a video conferencing meeting that is held on the Zoom platform. You may participate in these meetings by using a webcam or a tablet. A Zoom Space, on the other hand, is the physical hardware setup that allows businesses to schedule and launch Zoom Meetings from their meeting rooms.

Zoom Rooms are a perfect option for larger businesses and require an extra subscription on top of a Zoom subscription.

The key characteristics of Zoom

Here are some of Zoom's most important features:

One-on-one zoom calling: Also on the free plan, you can host an unlimited number of one-on-one meetings.

Up to 500 people will attend group video conferences (if you purchase the "large meeting" add-on). The free plan, on the other hand, allows you to host video conferences of up to 100 participants for up to 40 minutes.

Meet one-on-one or in small groups and share your phone with them so they can see what you're seeing.

Meeting or event recording: You may also document your meetings or activities.

Zoom supports one-on-one chat sessions that can be expanded into group calls, internal and external training sessions and webinars, and global video meetings of up to 1,000 participants and up to 49 on-screen videos. The free tier allows you to have unlimited one-on-one meetings, but group sessions are restricted to 40 minutes and 100 people. The cost of a paid plan per host starts at $15 a month.

There are four pricing rates offered by Zoom (excluding the Zoom Room subscription):

This tier is completely free. There is no limit to the number of meetings you will attend. The duration of group meetings with multiple members is limited to 40 minutes, and meetings cannot be registered.

Zoom Enterprise: This rate is for companies with 1,000 or more staff. It includes unrestricted cloud recording storage, a customer success manager, and webinar and Zoom Room discounts.

Optional - Zoom Rooms: If you want to set up Zoom Rooms, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial.

Downloads of the Zoom app

The desktop app runs on Windows and Mac OS X, while the mobile app runs on Android and iOS. The best experience is with the web version.

You can enter a meeting without signing in with either of the apps, but you can also use virtual backgrounds and screen sharing when you sign in with a Zoom account, Google, Facebook, or SSO. You can start a meeting, join a meeting, share your screen in a Zoom Room by entering the meeting ID, start Zoom Meetings, mute/unmute your mic, start/stop the video, invite others to the meeting, change your screen name, and start a cloud recording from there.

You can also start a local recording, build polls, broadcast your Facebook live on Facebook, and more if you're a desktop user. In other words, the desktop app is more feature-rich, though if you're a free user, the mobile app can still have a lot of value.

Outlook add-on Zoom Video Communications

Zoom can be used in a variety of ways—not just screen sharing and virtual backgrounds—in addition to the various Zoom app downloads. There's a Zoom Outlook plugin, for example, that works as an Add-in for Outlook on the web or directly in your Microsoft Outlook app. This Outlook plug-in adds a Zoom button to the regular Outlook toolbar, allowing you to quickly start or schedule a Zoom meeting.

Zoom browser add-ons

An extension for your preferred browser is another option for quickly starting or scheduling a Zoom meeting. You can schedule a Zoom meeting via Google Calendar using the Zoom Chrome extension or the Zoom Firefox add-on. With a single click of the Zoom button, you can start a meeting or schedule one for later, with all meeting details sent via Google Calendar so that participants can easily participate.

Zooming in and out in your browser

You can use Zoom in a browser if you don't have access to or haven't installed any software. Even if you have Zoom apps installed, you can use Zoom in a browser. On a desktop, clicking a Zoom connection will open a fast browser tab, which will then launch the Zoom app on your smartphone.

If you prefer, you can skip the app and run it directly in the browser. If your software isn't running, or if it's out of date, or if you're having login issues, you might try this.

Simply close the Zoom video communications app and return to the window that is displaying this dialog; you will see a link to enter in the browser.
