False deals are card sleights in which the dealer appears to take the next card fairly from the top of the deck while actually dealing a different card. The common forms are the second deal (the second card from the top), the bottom deal (the bottom card), and the middle deal (a card from the center). Magicians and gambling demonstrators use them to control which card reaches a spectator without looking unfair. The deal has to look identical to an honest deal in rhythm, sound, and hand motion, or the cheat is obvious.
