A bottom palm is a card sleight in which the magician secretly takes one or more cards from the bottom of the deck into the palm. The deck is then set down, handed out, or shuffled while the stolen cards stay hidden. It is used to remove a returned selection, to hold out cards for a later production, or to set up a switch. The steal has to happen during an ordinary action, such as squaring the deck, so nothing about the hand draws attention.
