Coin magic tricks

Coin magic tricks are illusions involving coins, designed to create effects such as vanishes, penetrations, productions, transformations, and transpositions.

Though the most foundational move in coin magic is the Classic Palm, which conceals a coin in the palm, coin magic tricks employ other coin palms  such as the Thumb Palm, Finger Palm, and other sleights such as false transfers, retention vanishes, and to manipulate coins invisibly. Popular coin magic routines are listed below.

  • Coin Vanish
    Making a coin disappear
  • Coin through Table
Rubbing a coin on a table till it seems to penetrate through the surface
  • Coin Matrix
Four coins placed in a square teleport under the magician’s hands
  • Coin Production
Producing coins from thin air, from behind a spectator’s ear, or from behind objects.
  • Coin Transposition
Switching the positions of two or more coins in a visually impossible way.
  • Copper/Silver Transformation
Visibly changing one coin into another, such as a silver coin into a copper one.

Coin magic tricks rely on precise hand movements, misdirection, and psychological subtleties, making coin magic a discipline that rewards practice and dexterity.

The disciplined magician has never uttered, “My hands are too small.” If you cannot do the Classic Palm, it means you have not practiced enough. Indeed, T Nelson Downs did not have enormous hands and was able to palm 60 coins at a time. Coin tricks can be performed impromptu, require minimal props, and are effective for close-up audiences, making them a staple in the repertoire of magicians.
