Flourishes are flashy displays with a deck of cards meant to look skillful rather than to hide a secret. They include fans, springs, aerials, one-handed cuts, and ornamental shuffles. Magicians use them as openers, transitions, or punctuation between effects; cardists treat them as the performance itself. Unlike a sleight, a flourish is usually meant to be seen and admired. Timing and smoothness matter more than speed alone.
