A double lift is a card sleight in which the magician lifts two cards from the top of the deck as if they were one. The spectator sees what looks like the top card, but it is really the second card. When the pair is turned face down and replaced, the real top card can be dealt off and appear to have changed, vanished, or traveled. The sleight is only convincing if the two cards are handled exactly the way a single card would be, so the pace and the grip matter more than the move itself. It underlies classics such as the Ambitious Card.
